SPORTS: Cross country heads to state; Homecoming victory

CROSS COUNTRY

The cross country team has high hopes for this year’s state meet. 
 
Seven athletes will compete at the finals after qualifying at regionals. Twenty-three teams will be in the running and over 300 students will attend. Plainview has won the meet the past couple of years.

Head Coach Justin Raper said “the athletes have been training all year for this event. They have been doing timed runs, lifting weights and taking ice baths after practice.” 
 
Senior team member Danielle states that this is her “best year as an athlete and a team.” 
 
Senior Taylor also said “The team will do great this year. The goal is to beat Plainview.”

Raper said he thinks that JHS has “a good chance to win, both boys and girls.”

The girl’s run 2 miles while the boys run 3.1. The medals are given out to the top 15 people in the state.
The meet will be at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee. The races will be from 7am-3pm.

Cross country going to state?

Seven cross country athletes will be selected to go to the state meet after qualifying at regionals. There Twenty-three teams will attend and around three hundred students will compete. 

Schools 3A and 2A from Oklahoma will compete between 7am to 3pm giving out medals as high as fifteenth place. “Competition at state will be tough,” said the cross country coach Justin Raper. 
 
Cross country runner Senior Taylor said, “Our team will do great.” Taylor even hopes the team can compete well against Plainview High School, who normally wins this meet every year.

Runners have been preparing by lifting weights, interval training, timed runs, and ice baths after workouts. Both cross country coach Raper and senior runner Danielle said they believe Jones will do great at the state meet. “We have a good chance to win both boys and girls,” said Coach Raper. The girls run will be 2 miles and the boy’s run 3.1 miles.

Senior Danielle said, "This has been the best year since I’ve gone here. I think we’ll do well.”

With nothing but high hopes, the Jones team has plans to do the best and hopefully beat out Plainview. This Oklahoma Cross Country meet will be held at the Gordon Cooper Tech Center in Shawnee, on Saturday, October 20.


Cross country confidence

Seven JHS athletes will compete against hundreds of others at the Oklahoma Cross Country meet that will be held on October 20th, 2012, after qualifying for regionals. It will be held at the Gordon Cooper Tech Center in Shawnee. There will be 23 teams competing and 300 students in each race. 

JHS athletes say competition is tough. Senior Taylor said, “Plainview usually wins every year.” 
 
The races start between 7am to 3pm. The race for the 2 and 3-schools will be 2 miles for the girls, and 3.1 miles for the boys. Metals are given up until 15th place. 
 
Athletes are passionate about cross country, working very hard to do their best. Athlete, Braeden, a junior, saids, “I want to get my times up and make it to state! I try and run many miles per day.” 
 
They prepare by lifting weights and running. They do interval training and time their runs. After workouts, athletes take ice baths to cool off and soothe sore bones and muscles. Jones cross country athletes set goals and expectations for the 2012 state meet. Taylor, Senior says, “The team will do great! Our goal is to beat Plainview.”

Coaches and athletes are confident about their performance at the state meet this cross country season. Coach Justin Raper said, “The boys and girls both have a good chance to win!” 
 
Senior Danielle says, “This has been the best year so far. I think I’ll do well.” 
 
Danielle has been involved in cross country since the seventh grade. She did well last year, also.
